During the Thuringian Archival Day of 2011, the Thuringian Archival Prize was awarded together with a 5,000 Euro grant for the first time. The “Matthias Domaschk” Thuringian Archive for Contemporary History was awarded the inaugural prize owing to its exemplary activity in raising political awareness and promoting political education. Further, its “Services in securing memorial material and testimony relating to the democratic-civic, environmental and peace movements” and the closing of a “historical gap” in contrast to “classic bureaucratic archives” were honored.
